In this guide, we provide you with all the necessary guidelines to pack your parcel correctly. It is essential that you follow all the instructions, as any item sent without complying the specifications detailed in this article, will be excluded from any type of compensation.
Packaging preparation is crucial to guarantee adequate protection during the transport and distribution process. Therefore, the packaging of your shipment must protect the products against shocks, falls and vibrations. It must also act as a shock absorber to ensure the integrity of all contents.
It is very important that you follow these guidelines:
- Use a strong, double-layered corrugated cardboard box that fits the weight and dimensions of the item, and can be stacked securely during transport.
- Wrap each item individually with a cushioning material appropriate to the weight, dimensions and type of goods being shipped. Be sure to carefully protect the corners and edges.
- Place the items inside the box, making sure that they are separated from each other and that there is at least 5 cm of space on the sides. Use sufficient cushioning material to prevent the products from moving during transport to reduce the risk of damage.
- Close and seal the cardboard box with packing tape.
Refer to the following sections to get details on how to prepare the packaging:
1. External Packaging
- Opt for a new cardboard box. Make sure the double-layer corrugated cardboard is strong, sturdy and durable.
- Select the size of the box according to the weight and dimensions of the merchandise.
- Handling instructions (handle with care, this side up, fragile, do not fold/bend, do not stack, etc.) do not guarantee any special treatment of the package. Please note that the goods are handled by automatic machines and must withstand a free fall of at least 80 cm.
- Pallet. The plastic or wooden pallet provides a stable and uniform base for stacking boxes and transporting bulky or very heavy goods.
2. Internal Packaging
Protects the merchandise against shocks, falls and vibrations. The internal protective materials are divided into the following categories:
- SHOCK ABSORBER: absorb and disperse impact energy to protect products against shock and vibration.
- FILLER: fill the empty spaces inside the box to prevent products from moving and bumping into each other. This helps prevent damage caused by friction and possible shocks.
- SEPARATOR: keeps the products separated from each other, avoiding any direct contact that could cause damage.
Important
- Any packaging that uses improvised materials to cushion impacts or shocks, such as: corrugated cardboard, newspaper, clothing, blankets, quilts or other similar materials, will be considered inadequate and non-compliant, and no claims will be accepted in the event of damage.
- The cardboard, paper, plastic and padded envelopes have no cushioning properties.
Honeycomb cardboard (Flexi-Hex sleeves) SEPARATOR It separates lightweight, non-fragile items from each other and protects against scratches. It does not offer impact protection, as it does not have strong shock absorbing properties. |
|
Inflatable packaging (Airbags) SHOCK ABSORBER It uses air pressure to protect the item from outside temperatures and cushions shocks when transporting fragile goods. Should not be confused with the Airplus cushion. |
|
Inflatable packaging (Airplus cushion) FILLER It immobilizes lightweight items and fill empty spaces within the box. It does not cushion against drops. |
|
Modular packaging / Russian doll (Matryoshka) / Box-in-Box SEPARATOR It consists of boxes of different sizes that are placed inside one another to provide protection against possible scratches and impacts. |
|
Compression-resistant polyethylene (PE) - Thickness >10 cm FILLER AND SEPARATOR It fill the empty spaces inside the box and separate the items from each other. It has shockproof capacity but does not cushion against falls. |
|
Injectable foam (EPS) SHOCK ABSORBER, FILLER AND SEPARATOR It adapts to the shape of the item, filling the empty spaces inside the box, immobilizing the merchandise, and protecting it from vibrations |
|
Expansive foam SHOCK ABSORBER, FILLER AND SEPARATOR It adapts to the shape of the item, fills the empty spaces inside the box, immobilizing the goods and protecting them from vibrations. |
|
Mouldable foam SHOCK ABSORBER, FILLER AND SEPARATOR It allows molding a protective wrap around the item, reinforcing the corners, protecting the edges, and providing adequate cushioning. It is recommended for all types of merchandise. |
|
Polyethylene foam - Thickness >5 cm SHOCK ABSORBER, FILLER AND SEPARATOR It allows molding a protective wrap around the item, prevents possible scratches, and provides adequate cushioning. It is recommended for all types of merchandise. |
|
Expanded polyethylene corners and profiles SHOCK ABSORBER It protects the corners and edges of the item against possible impacts. |
|
Foam rubber SHOCK ABSORBER AND FILLER It protects the item against shocks. However, it does not cushion against falls. |
|
Expanded polyethylene - Sheets Thickness <10 cm SEPARATOR It protects the surfaces of the item against scratches. |
|
Bubble wrap SEPARATOR |
|
Foam or wood chips / Polystyrene chips FILLER It fills the empty spaces inside the box and avoids possible scratches. It does not cushion against falls. |
3. Closing and sealing
- Use good quality, strong packaging tape at least 50 mm wide.
- Seal in an 'H' shape. Place packing tape in the shape of the letter 'H' over all openings of the outer packaging, both at the bottom and the top. This guarantees a proper and reinforced seal.
- Place impact resistant expanded polyethylene profiles to protect the edges and corners of the package. These profiles will distribute the pressure evenly and prevent possible damage.
4. Label and documentation
- Shipping label: we recommend using adhesive labels and placing them visibly on one side of the outer package.
-
Customs documentation: we recommend using a self-sealing adhesive plastic sleeve to insert the envelope with the shipping documents. This sleeve should be placed visibly on one side of the outer package.
For all shipments to and from non-European Union (EU) countries, it is mandatory that you include the customs invoice.
